Discover Our New Autumn/Winter Menu

As the seasons change and the days grow cooler, we’re delighted to introduce our new Autumn/Winter Menus, packed with delicious flavours, comforting classics and exciting new dishes, all lovingly prepared by our Head Chef Ivor and  his talented kitchen team.

Showcasing the finest locally sourced ingredients from surrounding farms and estates, each dish captures the fresh flavours and colours of the season.

New Lunch & Dinner Menu

Begin your meal with one of our delicious new starters. Warm up with our Fresh Soup of the Day, served with locally sourced sourdough bread, whipped sea salt and herb butter, or indulge in our Slow Cooked Duck Terrine with sour cherry chutney and local sourdough brioche – a perfect combination of rich, seasonal flavours.

For something a little different, why not try our Tandoori King Prawns, served with red lentil dhal, mint yoghurt dressing, curry oil and coriander? Bursting with aromatic spices, this dish is available as both a starter and a larger portion, making it a fantastic choice for a lighter main course.

Our Salt Baked Beetroot Bruschetta, served with O’de York cheese, local sourdough and walnut pesto, is another delicious way to begin your meal, while our Crispy Calamari & White Bait, with caramelised onion aioli and parsley cress, offers a tempting taste of the sea.

We also have some exciting vegetarian and vegan options to tempt your taste buds. Our Soy Glazed Maitake Mushroom, served with a blackened leek custard tartlet and coriander emulsion, is a delicious combination of earthy flavours and delicate textures.

When it comes to main courses, there’s something to suit every mood and appetite. Enjoy the delicate flavours of our Roast Monkfish, served in an Asian-style seafood broth with crispy rice noodles and burnt lime – a wonderful celebration of the sea with a warming twist.

If you’re looking for something a little more comforting, our 12 Hour Cooked Beef Shin is sure to hit the spot. Served with creamy mashed potato, caramelised crushed carrot and swede, kale and a rich red wine sauce, this is the very definition of hearty autumn and winter dining.

Our Roast Pork Tenderloin, served with pomme Anna, maple-roasted apple, garlic purée, oyster mushroom, cavolo nero and white wine sauce, brings together a delicious balance of seasonal flavours, while our Roast Sea Bass, with polenta cake, celeriac, fennel, red pepper relish and herb oil, offers a lighter but equally satisfying option.

For those looking for something plant-based, our Jerusalem Artichoke Risotto is a delicious seasonal treat, featuring toasted hazelnuts, Jerusalem artichoke crisps and parmesan flakes. Alternatively, our Butternut Squash Gnocchi, with spiced tomato sauce, sage and vegan parmesan flakes, is a wonderfully comforting choice and is suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.

From the Chargrill

Looking for something a little more meaty? Then our Chargrill Menu should hit the spot!

We pride ourselves on serving fresh meat from local farms and butchers, cooked to perfection over the chargrill. Choose from a Pork Tomahawk, Barnsley Lamb Chop or Beer-Brined Chicken Supreme, or treat yourself to one of our 28-day aged Hereford beef steaks, including a 10oz Sirloin, 10oz Ribeye or 8oz Bavette Steak.

All our chargrilled dishes are served with triple cooked chunky chips, home-smoked cherry tomatoes on the vine and rocket salad with ranch dressing. You can also choose from one of our delicious homemade sauces or butters, including chimichurri, peppercorn sauce, black garlic butter or café de Paris butter.

New Sunday Lunch Menu

All our stunning new starters are available on our Autumn/Winter Sunday Lunch Menu,  alongside our tempting selection of Nibbles, perfect for sharing with friends and family or simply enjoying as a lighter alternative to a starter.

Of course, no Sunday lunch would be complete without a proper traditional roast, and we’ve got all the ingredients for a truly memorable feast!

Choose from our delicious Roast Sirloin of Beef, Roast Leg of Lamb studded with garlic and rosemary, Roast Loin of Pork served with crackling and apple sauce, or our Roast Chicken Supreme with herb stuffing.

Can’t decide on just one? Why not enjoy our Trio of the Above Meats, served with suitable accompaniments? It’s the perfect choice for those who like a little bit of everything!

And for our vegetarian and vegan guests, our ‘The Black Horse’ Nut Roast is a delicious alternative, offering a hearty and satisfying Sunday lunch.

All our traditional roasts are served with all the trimmings, including roast potatoes, roast parsnips, roasted glazed carrots, seasonal green vegetables, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding and delicious roast gravy.

Our Nut Roast is served with vegan gravy, ensuring everyone can enjoy a proper Sunday roast at The Black Horse.

While our traditional Sunday roasts are always a firm favourite, we know that sometimes you fancy something a little different.

Our Homemade Chargrilled Burger, made with a homemade beef patty, toasted local-baked sourdough bun, black garlic burger sauce, maple-glazed smoky bacon, artisan cheese and all the classic trimmings, is served with house slaw and French fries. A deliciously satisfying choice for a relaxed Sunday lunch!

Alternatively, why not try our ‘The Black Horse’ Beer Battered Fish & Chips? Featuring sustainable haddock in a crisp gluten-free beer batter, triple cooked chunky chips, minted crushed garden peas, tartare sauce and grilled lemon, it’s a delicious British classic that’s perfect for any day of the week.

We also offer a Fresh Fish of the Day, served with suitable accompaniments. Ask your server about today’s catch!

Sundays are all about bringing people together, and that includes the little ones!

Our Children’s Sunday Lunch Menu, suitable for children aged 10 and under, features a selection of tasty favourites, including a traditional roast, homemade beef burger, fish and chips, butchers’ sausages and pasta.

With delicious options to suit younger appetites, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
